DEPARTMENT OF ENGLISH LANGUAGE AND LITERATURE
The founding FEK of the 'Translation Studies and Interpreting, Meta-Fraseis' laboratory was issued on Sept. 13, 2019 (3473/1452), and Professor Maria Sidiropoulou was its first director (31-07-2020-31-07-2023) and founding member.
The aim of the 'Translation Studies and Interpreting, Meta-Fraseis' Laboratory is to cater for the needs of undergraduate and postgraduate studies in the English Department, in translation theory, in the study of interlingual and intercultural communication and interpreting, across Greek and English (ΦΕΚ 13-9-2020)
The Meta-Fraseis PROGRAMME homepage (UoA: Meta-Fraseis Programme - ΤΗΕ 'ΜΕΤΑ-FRASEIS' LABORATORY) hosted the activities of the first three-year term of the Meta-Fraseis LABORATORY (31/07/3020-31/07/2023) and registered the Lectures/Seminars UoA: Meta-Fraseis Programme - Lectures/Seminars, Publications UoA: Meta-Fraseis Programme - Publications and Symposia/Workshops UoA: Meta-Fraseis Programme - Symposia/workshops organized by the Laboratory.
The 'Translation Studies and Interpreting, Meta-Fraseis' Laboratory is a follow-up stage of the Meta-Fraseis Programme which operated in the English Department for 14 years (2006-2020, founding member Dr. Maria Sidiropoulou), and developed the following projects:
- videopresentations on translation studies (from conferences the director participated in, funded by ELKE [the NKUA research fund], with visual material from Istanbul, Surrey, Manchester, Warwick university campuses and the Directorate General of Translation in Brussels and Luxenburg, for students to watch and transfer into the other language, as an exercise in translation cources, to enforce their bilingual state of mind. - a transation studies e-volume, Interlingual Perspectives, comprising successful postgraduate assignments from various MAs, in both languages (written in English or Greek and translated into the other language) as samples of MA projects (2010-2017) UoA: Meta-Fraseis Programme - Contents of the e-volume
- a parallel (source and target) data set of 547 news article-pair headlines from the Greek press and their English source versions with their links, through which the parallel versions may be retrieved [TEGMA: Translated English-Greek Material]. These were article pairs found by students in their attempt to do news translation assignments and were fairly difficult to trace (2005-2014), UoA: Meta-Fraseis Programme - T.E.G.MA.
